At the heart of the Devon countryside is Dartmoor National Park where sweeping moorland is interspersed with imposing granite tors formed in the landscape millions of years ago.

Surrounding the National Park the countryside is gentler, but no less appealing with a patchwork of green fields, thatched cottages and country lanes where an abundance of wild flowers grow in the hedgerows. Along the coast there are long, sandy beaches where you can enjoy a picnic or even go shrimping in one of the many rock pools.

Seaside towns like Paignton and Brixham are rich with tradition, Plymouth has many remainders of the nation's rich maritime heritage and wherever you visit you'll find plenty of opportunities to treat yourself to one of Devon's famous cream teas.
